“Victoria Care” is
a quality independent provider of
Care to the Elderly and less able in the West Sussex coastal strip
- which is the area between Shoreham to the east and Littlehampton
to the west - through its Residential Care Homes and Home
Care Division which provides care to clients in their own homes.
The company opened in its first Care home. “The
Victoria Lodge” in Shakespeare Road, Worthing in 1989, which is
now registered for 23 residents.
“The Victoria Park view” was purchased by the
current owners in 1995, and was run as The Parkview Nursing Home.
This flourished until 1998, when it was extensively re-furbished
and en-suite facilities added, and as Parkview Lodge Residential
Care Home Home which continued, until December 2002 when it became
part of Victoria Care, and was re-named The Victoria Parkview
In 1999, “Victoria
Care” further expanded
with the purchase of the Caledonia Nursing Home. Following
complete refurbishment the addition of two new lounges, Dining and
Communal areas, this Home is now one of the leading Care Homes in
Worthing, and will continue to be the ‘flagship’ Home of the
company. Upon re-opening under new management this deluxe Care
Home group was re-named “The Victoria Grand”.
Also in 1999, “The Poplars” Residential Care
home was purchased by the current owners, which is situated just 2
minutes walk from The Victoria Grand. This has tremendous benefit
for the Residents who can easily move between Homes to enjoy
activity sessions, entertainments or even just morning coffee or
afternoon tea in one of our ‘sister Homes’. This Home was also
extensively renovated and redecorated. with facilities added to
several bedrooms and became part of the Victoria Care Group in
September 2002, when it was renamed “The Victoria Mill”.
The expansion programme continued into the
spring of 2001 when The Leas Hotel was purchased. This very
impressive property at the seaward end of Grand Avenue has twenty
bedrooms (most of which are en-suite with baths/showers),
providing Victoria Care with additional prestigious accommodation
for the many referrals, which were being received, and to provide
for those clients who were awaiting a vacancy for Residential
Care. The location of this Home, being very so close To The
Victoria Grand and The Victoria Mill, allows residents to move
between the Homes as mentioned above. An extensive modernisation
and refurbishment programme has been carried out at this Home,
which is now known as “The Victoria Royal Beach’s
The Victoria Care Group prides itself on its
exceptionally high quality of Care, provided by its sensitive,
caring, professional staff. Each Home is run by its own Manager,
who supports the Carers and Catering staff Regular training
programmes are available to all.
The Proprietors - 20 years of experience
Paul and Moira Burtenshaw
have dedicated themselves to
providing a quality service to frail and elderly clients both in
our Residential Care Homes and in their own Homes.
Paul has had 10 years of experience as a Care
Home Proprietor, and continues to have overall responsibility for
“The Victoria Park view”. Paul deals mostly with the business side
of the Group, financial issues, the Home Care Sector and is based
in our Head Office in Tarring Road.
Moira has worked for 24 years in the Care
Business. Starting as a ‘supper girl’ at the age of 15, she became
a Junior Carer whilst still at school, then left school to
undertake her RGN training in a London Teaching Hospital. On
qualifying, she returned to Worthing to specialise in the Care of
the Elderly Department, before moving to The Intensive Care Unit
at Worthing Hospital. In 1988, she trained, qualified, then
practised as a midwife at Southlands Hospital, then returned to
studying to obtain her degree in Social Studies leading to the
position of Health Visitor. Moira held this position for 10 years,
specialising in Child Protection, before buying The Victoria Mill
with Paul in 1999. She was Manager of the Home for 3 years, before
becoming Proprietor of The Victoria Homes in 2002. Moira oversees
the four Victoria Homes in West Worthing.
